I think the award for the coolest bomb explosion goes to GG Aleste II...it warps the whole screen :O
What do you guys think?

Under Defeat gets my vote.
Some games have good explosions but no bombs IE, RSG, Gradius 5, Ikaruga, etc..
DOJ or DDP might be other good choices.

I gotta go with Under Defeat as well. I actually remembered saying "wow" when I used a bomb for the first time when playing.

Under Defeat wins for me too.
The first time I hit that bomb button, my first reaction was 'that's it?!?!?' and then 'ohhhhhhh, guess not!'

Quite a few interesting ones in R-Type Final, and cool Wave Cannons too.
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

Batrider has so many different bombs, but I like Strawmans screencovering bullet-net the best.

Has to be Hei-Cob's Dancing Genie in Gunbird 2. Explosions are fine, but you can't beat a big pair of jiggly jugs

Yes, Under Defeat is teh coolest. The first time I shot it I thought it was a napalm attack from behind. I freaked out and started fleeing towards the top of the screen until the whole TV was engulfed in flames
Alas, Ikaruga is going...
Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

Yeah, I'd have to say it's pretty hard to beat a giant screaming skull.
I kind of like Raiden 2/DX's bombs, but that's more because they lay waste to the background.
Anything that has a giant laser/particle beam/etc. gets points as well.

Saw the topic title and thought to myself "hah, I will say Under Defeat, no one else will have thought of that"
Darius Gaiden's bomb was also pretty badass from what I remember.

DDP laserbombs.
Raiden 2 clusterbombs, for collateral damage.
???? from Shikigami no Shiro's bomb, as it destroys even bosses in one shot. Looks painful too, very DBZ-ish.

Indeed, it even has some sweet "Chhhhreeeeaaaaaah" metallic screaming sound. From what I´ve seen, I like the Hadou cannon from Ibara too, it just looks very nice and actually acts more like a tactical weapon than an evasive screen-clearer.

Under Def, but i kinda liked how you can aim the bombs in Mushi, and that they looked kinda like Pestecide!

Yeah Darius Gaiden has a pretty tight bomb.
Although, I've never played Under Defeat, which seems to be winning by a landslid.

For Audio, nothing beats Raiden 2's sonic boom. First time I heard that through my sound system I said "fuckin ell".
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

I too vote for Under Defeat... that bomb just blows me away..
I own GG ALeste II, that bomb is cool as well and was probably the best during it's time... but Under Defeat is by far the best, IMO.

This is mostly due to nostalgia, but Space Megafore/Super Aleste and its whirling plasma balls of death.

A Black Hole summon from Darius Gaiden simply screams "badass".
I'm gonna have to check out the Truxton game.
