I like Noiz2sa for that "Ride your Luck" kind of thrill. Especially with the chance of making it through a solid wall of bullets thanks to the cage system it uses. Parsec47 just gives me that straight adrenaline rush.

Just in case anybody was wondering...I am working on a new score of some sort, but have hit a wall. :(

Nicely done, Icarus. I still have you covered, but it took a few hours this time. Anyway, a nice improvement to Hard and a surreal improvement to Extreme:

Lock/Hard: shiftace - 18 412 520 - 110 - keyboard
Lock/Extreme: shiftace - 21 337 050 - 97 - keyboard

I had the presence of mind to get a screenshot for the extreme score right after I died. I dread having to top either of these...

As to tactics, it sounds like I'm doing about the same thing as Icarus, with a touch more aggression and a ton more practice. Just holding the lock button is a bad idea; if you don't make some mad dashes across the screen, you can't chain, and if you can't chain, you might not survive to the next extend. Besides, it's better defense to move in jumps and create holes in the incoming fire (i.e., leading and cutbacks). But perhaps the best defensive behavior is to kill everything quickly.

FWIW, I drop chains without dying about once every 5 credits. I think I should drop more, though, as it would make me die less.

Oh, this game is pretty nice. Fast and somehow crazy, but incredibly fun.

Here are my scores so far:

Lock - Normal
Edge - 5'144'050 - 48 - PS2 Pad

Roll - Normal
Edge - 2'921'770 - 26 - PS2 Pad

And great highscoretable, piyo. :)

Damnit, I was hoping to move onto something else this week.

I've only started playing this since the end of STGT, so you've probably logged a few thousand more hours than I have.
I'll have something tomorrow, its 3.50am here, and I want something to eat while I watch Negima. ( ̄へ ̄)

I'm not used to Lock mode, but that seems to be the mode du jour. Takes a lot of intensity out of the game.

Lock/Extreme: Davey - 13,458,510 - 89 - HRAP

I used to be a lot better at this... I can't even come close to touching my old scores. :x

Maybe I'm still getting used to having a Japanese-style stick, but I think I almost prefer my old Saitek P880 pad. The Hori feels too light (soft spring?) for me in this game. I'll have to try it out and compare, since I've only been using the Hori since I got it.

I dunno, I find Lock more difficult as there's more stuff on screen. I prefer the "fire and forget" style of weaponry in most games.

It'll probably take some time for me to get used to a stick again since I've been without for over five years now (last time was on my old cab before I sold it). I'm getting the RAP1 fitted up with Japanese arcade standard buttons and joystick, as I prefer the sensitivity of the Japanese standard parts. And even Saturn-style joypads hurt my hands a bit after prolonged usage.

We'll see if it makes a difference once I get it in the mail. :P

I agree that it's less intense, but I think it's better balanced. I see less variation in difficulty and scoring opportunities; the small enemies are much more relevant; and the slower, tighter patterns won't kill you if you simply blink at the wrong time. However, Roll Extreme, with its impossible splash waves, runaway scoring, and slight unfairness, is still my favorite.

Sorry for the slow updates. The score table is updated now!!! :D

I think there were 16 new scores since I last posted. Amazing things have been happening here. We even have newcomer Edge testing the waters and oldcomer Davey trying to come back (last score seen at 2006/04/25). Plus PlasmaBlooD jumps up to normal finally.

I'm not sure my score on lock/extreme is going to be in the top 5 at this rate, but it's all good.

Anyways, glad to see this game getting some spotlight, even lock mode!

Rest up challengers, you did good. Have fun!

Aargh, I misread and thougt that PlasmaBlooD had my Lock/Practice score beaten. Why did I even bother with this?

Lock/Practice: 15,952,480 - Javel - 152

No improvements in the other modes unfortunately.

After 10+ runs in the 11-12 mil region I finally got a decent score:

Lock/Normal:
17,772,890 - Javel - 166

http://pici.se/pictures/DuSorJ.jpg

Am I missing something here? Collect all the green stars before they leave the screen, dont die... that´s it, right? I usually have around 6 mil after area 40, thats with no stars missed and no deaths.

The equation governing bonus appearance provides more items on harder modes. The "bonus factors" are {0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.3} going from Practice to Extreme. The other relevant factors are enemy hit points (higher for Roll), enemy survival time, and the on-screen bonus limit which is always 128. For more information, consult P47GameManager.d and Enemy.d.

Smallest increase ever, not quite 0.5%. I thought I could make it to 90. So frustrating.

Happy new year! Sorry scores haven't been updated timely! Should I make it one of my new years resolutions? :D

Scores updated!
We have shiftace extremely killing roll-extreme, lock-normal getting some heat from Edge and PlasmaBlooD. And we have newcomer shoe-sama on lock-extreme.

(Personally, I can't get my lock-exteme score above 5 mil these days, must be the Sudoku.)

BTW, I gotta mention Kenta Cho's newest game, Titanion (shmupsforum thread). Finally another feel good shmup, IMNSHO.

Roll - Extreme - 11,625,150 - P 59

8)

I play this game off and on when I ride my exercise bike daily (I play this or Tetris DS to pass the time!). I lost 50lbs after I graduated highschool, and 5 years later it hasn't come back 8) Partial thanks to Parsec 47!

Given what this game sometimes does to my heart rate, I bet it burns a decent amount of calories even though I'm just sitting on my ass.

An exercise bike is probably a good match for this game. Back when I played it regularly, I would sometimes pace back and forth around the apartment for a minute or two after dying to get the jitters out of my system. I swear, this game is like a pseudo-Polybius for me.

How's it going, guys?

Roll/Extreme - shiftace - 23 374 130 - 95 - keyboard - (screen)

I get a little tense playing this too, but not until real high levels, and it's mostly good tension. Only remember one bad stress reaction in all the time I've played. (I sat down and tried to guess how long that is recently. Came up with about 300 hours... maybe 350? Same diff, it's still ridiculous.)

You ass, you realize I'd have to get to level 120 to beat your Roll score, based on my typical scoring habits? :o

Here's a Lock score to boost my shattered confidence:

Lock - Extreme - Davey - 16,136,740 - 90 - HRAP

That'll have to do for now. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things now that I'm done with Blue Wish Resurrection. I'm barely breaking into the 10M range these days, and 15M is the best I've done since I got back into this game a couple days ago (for Roll, I mean).

Ah, so you're going at it with a stick now. Have fun, and I hope you fall short by the slimmest of margins. 8)
