What versions of tetris do you play? I'm actually quite addicted to the Tetris Grand Master series.

lol, why did i just read all of that?
what a glorious mess. ^_^

i haven't tried those, though some of the footage i saw had my hands itching to play. though for me it's really a handheld game. playing it on anything bigger just feels weird. a while ago i got Tetris DX cause the internet said it's the best GB Tetris, but it caps the speed before getting interesting. a friend lent me her Tetris DS, but in that one you can take a nap in between 2 blocks, even on level 20... also, infinite spin is not cool. so actually my favorite is still the ancient gameboy version.

i hate how Tetris is inherently doomed to somehow break down at high speeds. someone should make a control scheme where you just have a separate button corresponding to every column (hey it works for rhythm games!), and make blocks spawn in that column, plus 4 buttons corresponding to every orientation. it'd take some getting used to, but it would allow instant drop without resorting to infinite spin. ^_^

pretty much only play arrange in Ibara. my best restart-free run was i think 39*10^? (sorry i just can't keep track of the number of digits of each game, but it got me the second place in the default list). i'm happy if i score an extend and some change on stage 1. -_-;;

The juvenile attitude and sexist opinions of many of the men I have met in the gaming community are what keep women away from the scene, not a lack of interest. The posts in this thread are an example of both why women might feel like that cannot be involved in the gaming community and why many would feel that games are "for nerds" who have no social skills and a inability to speak to women as human beings.

And some people can't recognize humor. We are playing jokes off of jokes. We are making fun of the jokes about girl's not playing games. I won't oppose you calling us juvenile, hell, I'm only 16, but saying that we have sexist opinions is stupid. I haven't seen a single sexist comment on here that wasn't a blatent joke.

Besides, we can't be that bad if there are 4 women on here already. Considering how niche this genre is, that's probably not a bad number.

Women playing video games? Certainly not unheard of I don't think. Also, four is probably an expected number, with probably even a few lurkers!

We should stop talking about it before it really happens.

What I'm curious about is whether Kogepan Chan is a girl or just a boy who supports women's rights excessively.

Or none of the above.

I wonder if Kogepan Chan will ever post again.

I don't think it's the case that a lot of women want to play video games but don't because of the men acting like dorks. I think most women just don't like video games that much. If they did they would play video games regardless of what the men think. And there are some that do. But the main reason that most gamers are male is because most women don't like video games from the get-go. It's not about content either, or we would see more women playing games like The Sims. The fact is that most women would rather do something else, like watch TV, read, talk on the phone or whatever. The majority of men don't play video games either, but there are a lot more men than women playing the games. It has more to do with what is considered masculine or feminine in our society, and what we learn about the world growing up, than what somebody says around us when we are already grown up. It's not like there is some kind of KKK trying to kick women out of games.

That I know of.

General gaming? Yeah. Shmups? I doubt that. Never seen a/s/l asked on any board about this stuff. The registration on here doesn't ask a gender, there's next-to-zero online play, voice chat, and no green high score list puts a "M" "F" label next to the numbers. Most if not all top scoring players come with brains so discrimination isn't gonna happen here.

Get your alias on some scoreboards, no matter what places and you're already more legit than a sizable chunk of the forum. Shit, even just choosing to run a scoreboard thread makes you pretty cool by default.

This community still rallies around the interest first, the people second. If a woman was truly interested in this gaming genre, there should be no discriminating barriers of entry to here whatsoever. The regulars here are not going to give a shit of a username's gender announcement; their follow-up question is going to be more like "so what's your score in ____?"

This genre could use more women. There's too many shmups tailored toward their direction anyway.

I signed up in '05 so I didn't sign up just to post on this thread! Ironically I signed up to find out more about Esp. ra. de. Dj incompetent I see your point but this thread isn't about scoreboards its about the fact that it is so strange that a girl should like shmups and it wasn't posted by a girl trying to get attention because of her gender. You say "The regulars here are not going to give a shit of a username's gender announcement" when you say regulars who are you talking about? The guy that posted "TITS or GTFO" is a regular so were the guys that referred to women as nags and were surprised that a woman who liked games wasn’t fat or ugly. It’s simple if you want more women to share your interests don’t stereotype them!

I think it's more hyperbole than actual stereotypes. So it's just a race to who can pull the non-PC card first really. This stuff is kinda silly anyways. Why aren't there more girl drag racers? Why aren't there more guys who love knitting? Mind makeups are different depending on gender, certain stimuli are more apt to cause a positive affect, etc. All about more of this or that chromosome, you know the deal. Probably why some guys feel the need to crossdress.

Just blame society for immature guys and don't blanket it with stuff like "the gaming community" ...that's the kind of fallacies a lot of violence in gaming arguments fall into.

Short version: somebody doesn't like Icarus or doesn't appreciate his sense of humor. He thinks it's funny to demand proof even though he admitted that it's juvenile. If that kind of stuff offends you, then frankly this may not be the board for you. This board is mostly uncensored and is not for sensitive types, children or lots of other people, come to think of it.

The fact remains that Kogepan didn't care to post until now.

My girl likes games. My girl is beautiful. My girl is also intelligent and funny. I proposed to my girl, and she said yes, and I'm happy.

complete overkill thread-obliterating long-ass version:

a'ight. I need a beer for this one.

Forum Culture. Stage One:

1. Any picture Icarus posts; he's kidding...unless...somebody dissed Raizing...or something.

2. Never, ever take offense to common internet memes. They're used just for the sake of being used.

3. Who cares if people asked for a pic to backup ST Dragon's story. People ask for pics on a thread-story not related to girls. Other people think new threads about random stories are fiction without pics. It's not that uncommon people spread unverifiable bullshit for attention. People may think story threads like this are a waste of time by default.

4.
Bloodreign wrote:Good job finding a woman who loves the shooters, make sure you keep her, unless she has a hidden nagging side.
Not a stereotype.
stereotype wrote:All women have a hidden nagging side. All gamer chicks are fat 'n ugly.
Stereotypes.

Also, my girl has a nagging side. We get it they don't all do. Warning of the possibility isn't an insult.

5. Figure out the context before picking apart single lines.

TITS or GTFO
Fighter17 wrote: Funny.

Offensive to all women.
Shocking.

And I was grinning as I hit the 'Submit' button.
Very obvious he was cracking a joke about calling out a girl for the argument of gender proof, which nobody was expecting. C'mon...nobody was banking on tits..or getting the fuck out.
The fact he calls himself out on it adds to it.

When the forum believes more that there are guys pretending to be girls here* instead of ragging on anybody who says to be a girl, there's no sexisms goin' on. People really don't care enough. Interested, yeah. Nobody's openly seriously grandstanding & demanding proof, right? If you think so, I don't see it.

*and yes this does happen

6. Field lighthearted one-liners with light-hearted one-liners...or single words. Never, ever with a soapbox retort. Normally it'd just invite further cheap shots. Instead, ya got like 3 people tryin' to make sure you understand the scene. I think yer good.

7. This isn't a politically correct forum. Everyone is a target here. Try it sometime. It shouldn't be that hard to come up with a snarky comment against a guy with a female avatar.
kccttzj & glitch get it. You should get it :D

You end up with that game? So what's your ESPrade score?
