I've really no idea at all. The PS2 one is called 'ultimate final' - I don't know if it's just a label, or if something was changed. If anyone could confirm one way or another...?

I've got a DC score too. I heard that in the PS2 version, you could hold a button down and spin instead of having to do it the old fashioned way. Anyone have a clue on any differences besides the spinning?

PS2 version also has an option to highlight hitboxes.

While I can't confirm it, I doubt there's anything different with the scoring between PS2, DC, XBox and arcade versions. The roll button does make the playing field slightly uneven, maybe you should make separate tables or ban its use.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

My scores are for PS2 version, all defaults.

Maybe we should have another column indicating which console. Or have another table. Either way.

If another table pops up, cool, if not, pass by my score.

Damocles - 12768500 - LV unknown - Area 5

Dunno what the criteria is for getting the true final level, so I'm stuck at level 5 instead of All.

This was a great run for me. No lives lost until one during the final boss, so I still had 2 lives (one in stock) when the credits rolled. My first 1CC on this game too. :D

First shot at the PS2 version, positively awful run, although at least Area 6 was in reach had I not fouled up on the first large enemy in Area 5. Try your best, everyone!

By first large enemy, I mean the first thing that isn't complete popcorn, not the big guy you need to waste to open the underground part. I came in at 290, so I only needed the last transformation, and reaching level 360 or so by the end would have been no problem at all.

Coming on nicely CRI. It's all about milking gluon for about 15 million, so get practicing on fighting him without using your ship's guns... :)

The review on this site is pretty bad isn't it? Not accurate at all...
I've been an avid Psyvariar 2 player for about 6 months now, and I play using an Xbox controller (no joystick, boohoo!).
Since the xbox version has a 'replay mode' that forces 1CC playstyle, I've always played to 1CC the game, and I have replays of my good runs.
The best I've managed is the following:

Buzz type:
Score: 66,186,200
level: 527
Stage: 6
(game completed 1CC)

(Getting this score required milking gloun, his second form died on the rapid blue rings attack, just before the big orange pinwheel).
The only parts I didn't milk for buzz were:
stage 1 boss, second form
Stage 2 boss
Stage 4 boss, first form
stage 5 boss
My other high achievement was 1-life-clearing the game including stage 6, but I will be the first to say it was *far* easier to kill gloun without losing a life than it was to squeeze the buzz out of him without getting gameover.
I'm not so practiced with shooting type, but I *can* get it evolved fully by the start of stage 5, something I've not managed to do with the buzz mech on one-credit mode. My best run with shooting is:

Shooting type:
Score: 25,046,200
level: 470
Stage: 6
(killed by gloun)

Now to speak to a few posters from this thread:
Last boss is easy compared to area 5 boss! his patterns are nightmare to evade and buzz at the same time
!?!?!?
But he's so easy to kill if you don't try to milk him...
first attack: (anticlockwise spray)
Start on the left of the screen, circle around the boss as he does his slow anticlockwise spray, using your bullets to build your neutrino guage very close to the top.
second attack: (circular bullet pulses)
Simply sit in the far bottom-right corner. This is a blindspot (even though it might not look it). Your neutrino guage will now be JUST about to levelup.
third attack: (blue spiral)
Move into the spiral getting close. As soon as you level, sit on the boss and keep levelling up until he dies.
Second form:
First attack:
Keep shooting the boss, and time your levelup to run through the mass of pink bullets he puts out.
Second attack:
Use a bomb (the only part of the whole game I use a bomb on prior to stage6) to get inside the boss. Sit there until he dies.

Gloun, OTOH, is difficult if you just try to kill him, and as far as milking him is concerned I've never been able to have him perform all his attacks and self destruct in his second form, even with 3 lives and 6 bombs at the start of the stage! Rumour has it you can get 100,000 buzz if you do it all.
By first large enemy, I mean the first thing that isn't complete popcorn, not the big guy you need to waste to open the underground part. I came in at 290, so I only needed the last transformation, and reaching level 360 or so by the end would have been no problem at all.
You know you can't transform twice at once don't you?
From that score, I imagine you started the level below 288, meaning you would have got your level 288 evolution, but not your level 356 one, hence not getting gluon.
The enemy that killed you shouldn't be too bad though - start at the bottom of the screen, move up towards the top-left as he starts firing, so you can scoop up all the bullets from the left sattelite as they are fired. With the inevitable levelup move through the second sattelite's spray, aiming to get your neutrino guage high without levelling, then sit on the bosses big blue spray for a few levels, moving on top of him as his atack starts to die down, to kill him.

... and yes, I know the score is low, I just got the PS2 release and that was the score from my test run with the game :)

Ah, sorry, I thought by 'I came in at' you mean you entered this topic's highscore table at 290, I didn't realise you meant you entered level 5 at 290.

Is it much harder with a PS2 pad?
Also, what is the 'mission mode' like? I always liked the idea of having that as a means to get my friends into psyvariar...

If it wasn't for the fact that they added a roll button, I would hate playing with the DualShock 2. I haven't really decided if it seems harder or not, but so far I prefer playing on the Dreamcast version (joystick or pad!)

Mission mode is actually pretty cool, maybe just because it's something new. Play through a stage section while trying to reach a certain objective. However, the mission objectives might be kind of unfriendly to the japanese illiterate. The loading times also suck.
