For ThunderForce III, try starting out in Haides.
The trickest parts of Haides are:
1. Learning when land goes up or down, and if an opening closes when land goes up.
2. Figuring out the safest way past the rotating things.
3. What looks like a dead end part actually scrolls backward before resuming forward scrolling.
4. Near the end of the stage, before the boss, watch for falling or rising rocks.
The best parts about starting out in Haides are:
1. Every weapon is available: Firey, Saber/Sever, Laser, Wave, Hunter. The Claw is also available fairly early in the stage. Saber/Sever and Laser are offered twice.
2. A shield is also available if a red ship is shot before it falls off screen, near the end of the stage.
3. There are two 1-up items present on this stage.
4. The game's demo mode shows a preview of about 1/4 of this stage, so the first few land movements can already be memorized just from the demo.
I personally start out in Siren....mainly cause of the shield...If you start out there you end with Gorgon and that stage is EASY as hell to go with a full shield into the Cerebus chase and into the ORN Base. But that is for Maniac setting, at least for me. i guess to each his own....
