Today I got my DOJ-BLEX finally in the mail (thing has been lying at the local pickup place since the 13th, and I didn't get a notice):

(of course, running on the 360 through my Super Emotia)

Here's some closer looks:

Since that photo of the title screen was taken, I found the "overscan" option in the video settings, and have gotten rid of that glimpse of the wallpaper surrounding the screen.

Ok So I'm taking the plunge in 360 to JAMMA and I have a few questions.

First: I have a extron super emotia II, and I was wondering if I need to pull the rgb from the output VGA or if wiring it striaght in from the BNC works/is better? I am using the jammboards.com finger board just EMPH is.

Second: How are you guys getting sound into the cab? My current thought process is use a very small cheap t-amp to smp the line audio from the 360's RCA then soldering the speaker wires into the corresponding jamma pins, should this work, do I not need to got to this trouble?

Third: What setting do I use on this thing to output 240? There seems to be an AF switch, a PAL switch, 75hz on the back, then oversan and positional knobs etc. OR does it automatically output in 240?

Final: I only have a 4b per side EII panel, in terms on controls I was thinking about the standard d-pad, ABXY, start, and home/xbox buttons on 2p start, is there any reason I'd need to wire anything else up? I don't plan on really using this for much outside shmups.

Thanks in advance
Kevin

there's no RGB output on the VGA port. The VGA is a passthrough from the input, so you HAVE TO use the BNC jacks.

switch on the front. It says "non-interlaced". The other two positions are 480i with a flicker-filter applied.

Awesome video man. You should do one where you show off Extra mode as well.

Finally finished this up. -12v brought all the color up to spec. Had to change the setting on the Capcom I/O to get sync. No sync with a J-PAC when the J-PAC has power, but perfect sync (dark video) if the J-PAC is not powered. I didn't tie the black/white grounds, so that's probably it.

Decision: Sticking to the Capcom I/O because I use TTX2, I'll probably pick up a JVS-pac for PC input. So question Emph, where'd you get that sexy little XBOX360 converter box of yours there ;D

I got the box itself from SinHo for free (he drilled a bunch of holes in it first though) and designed and printed the label myself. You should be able to find one at Radioshack, Maplins or some similar store where you live. Glad to see you got your Emotia hooked up! :D

Ah it's something custom. I assumed since it looked good it was mass-produced or something. No sweat then, I was planning on making my own in the beginning anyway. I hear the GameStop controllers are the easiest to work with. Any recommended button layout? Not that it matters with any game you'd play with a joystick anyway.

If you already have a working PS2->JAMMA solution, you could get one of them lag-free PS2->360 adapters instead. It would still need a wired 360-pad though but it'll save you lots of soldering etc.

OK, my $10 Emotia Plus looks fine in PAL but distorts in NTSC. This isn't normal is it?

Mine sporadically jumps a bit every few minutes, like it loses sync for a second. I haven't tried the other few units I picked up yet because I'm restructuring the basement, but I guess we'll see how that goes.

Emph, I really like that idea, sounds like it'd be nice to kill two birds with one stone :D

Hello !

First , thank to everyone who contribute on this topic.

I'm interested in buying any emotia products for my Egret 2 , and i have the opportunity to have an Emotia JR. Anyone ever tried thoses product ? They look fine , Antiflicker , VGA input and RGB output , over / underscan etc ... is there any problem with them ?

Another question : Why everyone is talking about Jpac ? Why do people needs a Jpac for a 360 + Emotia ?

Thank you very much !

AFAIK, the JR product does not output 240p (arcade compatible video) but 640i or something like that. Not what you're after, sorry. The J-Pac part of the equation is:

a) control interfacing
b) pass-through for the RGBS->JAMMA harness

So, you don't need a J-Pac, but if you already have one it can be used for (at least) controls successfully. I haven't gotten my Emotia to work with a J-Pac though (for video).

I thought the Jr just didn't have RGB, but just composite and s-video.

Ok thank you for your answer !

I found on the Internet converter call " Emotia converter " , not " super " or " GX " version. Is it the same thing ? Or is it a mistake from the seller ? Will it be good for me ?

Can i plug thoses converter inside the cab ? ( 110 V under the test switch )

the regular emotia will only convert 640x480 (VGA).

cab's power should be fine.

Ok cool !

But as i only want to play Dreamcast / 360 , 640*480 Should be good enough , as it's native DC resolution , and the 360 supports that rez right ?

Now , trying to find one of thoses Emotia ! If anyones have tips / places or even on to sell , just Pm' me ;)

Thank you very much

A plain Emotia will work. Just make sure it's not a JR. If you get the power supply (this is sometimes missing and I can't recommend that you buy a unit that's missing it) you can just use a standard PC/Monitor power cable with it as the supply switches automatically between 240/110V. But yes, the socket in your cab is good for these units' powering.

Ok cool , i just won my Emotia :D

There's just one thing that you may help : If i want to connect , for exemple , an 360 to an 15k Arcade monitor , i have to plug the VGA 360 cable onto the emotia , and then , what kind of cable should i have to cut/solder on the Jamma fingerboard ?

I saw on your pics that you plug " RGBS " cable on the output of the Emotia ... Are thoses cables the one you solder on the fingerboard ?

What's actually on the other sides of thoses cables ? ( sorry i never saw that kind of cables )

Image

This ? So i should cut the Dsub and solder them on a figerboard right ?

Sorry if my question is a bit dumb

Cool :)

And when there's two other coulours of cable ( like grey and black ) , they're both synchro and i have to solder them together so ?

But damn , will cost me the same price that the emotia + shipping oO

Are thoses cables always expensive ?

Review and pics when i'll get it :D

There are adapters available so you can plug RCA cables into those BNC outputs on the Emotia instead. Will perhaps be cheaper. Perhaps at Radio Shack or your local equivalent they have connectors suitable for soldering. Taking apart the D-Sub sounds unnecessary. Also, you just need 1 sync cable.

BTW, how do you plan on hooking up controls to your cabinet? Me, I used a fingerboard + a JAMMA female so I could pass-through all controls and just take the RGBS+Video GND from the Emotia. Actually, I didn't use the VIDEO GND from the Emotia as I didn't know where to get it, so I used the common ground from the JAMMA instead to get a stable picture.

I'm planning on cutting all wires from my actual panel ( that goes to jamma harness ), and resolder them on a female connector DB-25 , then resolder them on a male DB-25. Then , DB-25 male hack pad for 360 ( and maybe mame if it works , they should work after all ? ) and another one for DC pads.

Is there something i should worry about grounds ?

I have a fingerboard left here , so yes i could try this , but i'll have problems if i want more than 4 butons ? If i put them on , for exemple , 26 & 27 on the fingerboard , i'll get a few problems as thoses cables are ground on my E2 harness ?

and if i solder for ex , Xbox hack pads on the fingerboard + Emotia , how could i get my Emotia runing with DC pads ?
