Watching Peep Show now. From season 1, yup. Wicked.
I bet the Brits are quite familiar with that now venerable series but it never aired in my country, not even subbed.

I think it's quite doable, from fansubbers with enough cultural knowledge both sides and not ashamed to insert annotation.
Except for the parts featuring Hans. I mean wow, er...quite the challenge. Honestly I've had to rewind and google several times to decode his lines.
(used to deal with a sales rep who was even harder to understand though)

Missed out in '71 but I'm watching Lupin III for the first time and loving it.
I can see it being something a lot of kids wouldn't really get into though.

Also I get a chuckle out of the themes which are essentially just saying Lupin various ways.
It takes a few episodes to get some flavor.

My wife recently started watching through Stargate Atlantis on Hulu. Pretty standard space opera type stuff, but a lot of the characters seem rather poorly developed and indistinct, to the point I have no idea who exactly is supposed to be who, and we're nearly all the way through the first season. And it seems rather odd that virtually every single habitable planet in the Pegasus galaxy happens to look exactly like some random forest in British Columbia...

Season 2 is where the show gets a lot better. Season 1 was alright, but the show is way better once Season 2 gets going.
Last things I watched TV wise are:
Walker Texas Ranger, Some bad stuff in season 5, but getting better
Mama's Family, the revamp of the show is way better than the network first 2 seasons
Neighborhood Hero, Not sure if I'll stick with this if episode 2 is as confusing as the first, but action was nicely done.

Started to watch The Wire with my family and managed to finish the first season within a week.
Sure its reputation isn't a lie, as is a very solid miniseries with lots of exposition between police force and criminals. Season 2 is bound to have the same set-up, but the different enviroment is interesting.

I watched it and enjoyed it, but by the end of season three I was done. Ymmv.

All seasons are good, but I found 2 to be the weakest. As a friend said, "too many white people".

I don't care what kind of people are there, as long they made a good case (white drug sellers isn't one of those).
Beside, as far as I get it, Baltimore seems full of different races and not just blacks.

Watched all the episodes of The Night Manager.... I loved the locations and looking at the beautiful blonde woman, that's it. The story while entertaining is not very convincing in some key moments, and the acting had ups and downs: the lead actor was not really well suited for the role (the role also could use some better writing), and Dr. House just plays Arms Dealer Dr. House (funny how they both won a Golden Globe for it, but this award is a joke anyways); while the right-hand man was terrific and the mi-6 crew did fine

watched 3 episodes of a series of unfortunate events on netflix and even though I'm going to keep watching, I'm not all that into it.
not a fan of how self-aware the show is...constantly referring to itself as a tv show on a streaming service and bashing the movie industry. I'm a huge fan of patrick warburton but I can't tell if I dislike him in the role, his script, or the director. neil patrick harris seems too young for the role of count olaf and he comes across as much more creepy than the jim carrey version. even assif mandvi as uncle monty isn't as well executed as billy connolly's.

the visuals are nice at least.

Never read the Series of Unfortunate Events books, but my girlfriend, who was young enough to appreciate them assures me they were just as postmodern, with constant direct mode of address and awareness of its medium. Therefore, an apt adaptation.

Being 30 with no kids I have no reason to watch it other than to admire the excellent cinematography and mise en scene, though that for it'starget audience (10-14 yo's, though definitely enough to engage younger audiences) that this is the tits. Subtle wordplay, deconstruction of narrative conventions, and just dark enough to not warrant an age certificate. A few collegues have mentioned how much fun it is to watch with their kids.

Still watching The Wire and I only need to watch season five, the dreaded five.
Honestly, I don't treat praises on something like they're a gospel, more so when I'm experiencing such thing. Therefore, five must blow my balls up considering I finished that slog of season four: I'm aware of the sublime craft of it and how they treated the topic of school system, but no investigation and too much youth drama (I was expecting Boston High level of drama, but it wasn't) makes me a bored viewer.

I concour with this pretty much:

Started watching Goliath with Billy Bob Thornton last night. Two episodes in, and I'm hooked.

Same here. First watched it during teacher training so it holds a special resonance.

Rewatching Season 5 a few years back, the previously ridiculous plot device made a lot more sense, considering the way
Spoiler: show
McNulty's
character is established through the series. Definitely not the strongest series, but the news room is a compelling setting.

(Spoiler tagged a name on the basis that knowing a character even survives in this show is a definite spoiler...)

Finished season 1 of Twin Peaks just now. Interesting. Watching via dvd. Better than I remembered it. Never seen season 2 so this should be fun! And then all over again after that with that Northwest Passage fanedit.

Season two is great in parts, but I wish I could skip the parts with James leaving town.

Nice to see another perspective. I enjoyed the last 2 episodes of the season not knowing anything going into it, but it probably needs a revisit after I read the series for the first time.

I'm actually not too turned off by kids books and I'm looking forward to make my way through selzniks wonderstruck before the film releases.

Regardless, the he girlfriend is rereading the books after having watched the series, and although she wasn't the biggest fan either, she assured me the Netflix series is pretty accurate although the books are even more dark.

edit: actually talking to her today, apparently only the first book was very close? at least in regards to the 2nd there are some major changes

Finished The Wire the last evening. The last season, while it displays a rotting characterization and lame plot choices,
Spoiler: show
(like Omar getting killed unceremoniously by that foul-mounth child Kennard; finding a serial-killer's emulator by chance; ecc.)
it was better paced and exciting than that slog of season 4.
Regarding the ending, its not so different than the other seasons: "even if you try and succed, the higher up fuckers will prevent any game changer what so ever" (or Baltimore, never change).

Now, are there any series made by David Simon worth to watch or is this the only good thing?

Following the unfortunate passing of John Hurt, I decided to watch "I, Claudius". While I've only saw the first (combined) episode, where he still hasn't appeared, I fell in love with the performances of the actors, and all the fucking plotting and intrigue! The Roman backgrounds and wardrobe are nicely done, and even the opening credits are great!
A great production so far. It's also weird as hell to see Brian Blessed with a clean cut, and I heard Patrick Stewart has hair in this. I was also surprised to see Guy Siner. He played the effeminate Lieutenant Gruber in Allo Allo.

That's about where I got when I stopped. Need to watch the last 8 episodes or so before Season 3 starts.

Highly recommended. Great storytelling and a great take on the original material.
