Time for me to be a creep and ask people about the personal details of their life.

I study physics! I find something stimulating in making myself suffer =D

Computer operations.

I'm basically a security guard for automated schedules and monitors that run overnight on computers. If anything goes red or beeps I call support. In the real world its a bit more technical than that, some unix/universe knowledge necessary but nothing too taxing.

My father owns a wholesale flooring company, I've worked as a salesman for him part time. I feel your pain.

I work in a high level tech support position. It's kinda shitty, but it pays well and it's nice to only deal with sysadmins.

I failed chemistry at various intervals: high school, community college, and at the university. And, yet, I managed to get by... not enough to get into any professional or even a graduate school, but I found a job. The pay is alright in the sense that I don't have to ever worry about bills, health care, vacation, etc 8)

Currently in various fill-in jobs while I am looking for a post-doc/(assistant) professorship position in Uni. I'd say that my "plan A" job is researcher in Cognitive Sciences, Linguistic specialization.

I assemble cars in a modern automotive factory...and hate it. It pays very very well though. I have been in the automotive assembly profession (unskilled labor pool) for about 7 years now. I think I'd get more job satisfaction as a prostitute....or selling flooring. I'm kind of curious how many people actually ENJOY their profession. I've yet to have ever worked many jobs ever that I've liked.

Previous professions include:
Retail sales (hardware/sporting goods, books, video games)
Gas station attendant
Grave digger/cemetary maintenance
Caregiver for violent mentally handicapped adults

And I have a Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement with a minor in Philosophy.

Coallate that, bitches!

Surface treatment for metal pipes / plastic extrusion. Basically, I operate a machine that covers pipes in coloured plastic. I get to listen to my music all day and use internet freely on my phone. I love my job.

I teach at an after school program at several elementary schools which are all within walking distance. It's the best job ever, I don't think I'm capable of much else outside of working with kids. However, the state might decide to cut our funding after this year, in which case I'll need to start my own program.

I also teach dance a few nights a week, been doing that for almost 15 years now!

I love my jobs, but I can barely cover my cost of living. I'm hopeful things will start falling into place after this summer.

Same here, except I work on an embedded team, testing device firmware. Naturally, this requires an MA in Philosophy, almost. Still happy with my path choice, and currently really enjoy my job. I'm looking to do a BTEC in electronics to get a better grasp of what our firmware is actually driving, but just had a kid, so yeh, evening study...right.

I think you win?

I'm doing CHINESE STUDIES at university. I do not like the name of this course as pretty much every degree with "studies" in the name sounds pointless and probably is. Also it may be misleading for me at the moment as I ignore my Mandarin classes to progress my own way and don't like my current history or Classical Chinese classes, so most of the STUDIES I do revolve around the pre-modern Japanese class I took this year.

When I grow up I plan to be unemployed and regretful.

I'm a lecturer in Media Studies and Film Studies, both of which are undeniably pretty pointless but also ridiculously fun. I guess providing the necessary tools to fully appreciate film, television, music and so on is somewhat worthwhile. Mainly I fell into it as teaching is the only thing I've ever really enjoyed doing. Hope to do a PhD at some point, which basically means I will never get round to doing it in a million years.

Interesting seeing what everyone 'does' (I don't like the use of that word, it tends to insinuate that we are wholly defined as who we are by our job. Though for me that s pretty much true). Unsurprising to see so many people work with computers, but it still interests me to see how many people work in education on the forum. Guessing playing shooting games and teaching kids/adults takes a similar level of commitment and concentration...?

Land Surveyor at a mine.
I like it a lot (minus the mining part). It offers a good balance between working outside and CAD work. I talk shit on shmups in between AutoCAD and other programs crashing :V

I plan on going back to school, but I cannot work full time and go to school part time. Sleep deprivation and online classes killed me last semester. When I email a teacher I expect a response withing 24 hours, not 72 hours.
