Not sure how good Winds is on scoring. I'd like to know if money is turned into points at the end. And yes, I think splitting the armors is totally worth it.

Youtube indicates 100 points/coin for the PCE version. Could be very valuable if you're able to get by without replenishing health, bombs, etc. at the end of every stage.

Seems to be 10/coin in the Mega CD version. They probably decided that the coin value in the PCE version was too high so they cut it down... maybe too much? In any case, it looks like enemy point values might be higher in this one.

I didn't realize that the coin count maxed out at 10,000 which isn't a high number at all. Guess you don't have to be as conservative with your purchases as I thought. I'm actually very disappointed, since it means clear scores are going to be differentiated by the number of power items you pick up at full power and stage order (would have to take the time to figure out how to maximize the number of enemies that are available to kill).

Interestingly, upon further inspection the Mega CD version doesn't cap at 10k, and it seems like it might hand out more gems.

Oops, I forgot to add in "ARMOR". I should probably use "normal play" over "Free Armor", but you're supposed to use the Water Armor 90% of the time, right?! Yes, I wanna see some Wind clears, which I will probably try to do myself if it's even possible.

I dislike the coin cap but I do like the "take power items at max". If the game actually allows it to work (and this is the question), it makes no-miss fun enough. Also makes the game/score a bit easier, you can buy a few things.

It's just a shame they're worth so little - at 500 a piece, we're probably talking 50k or less for a perfect game. For comparison, those little popcorn birds that appear everywhere are worth 300 each.

I'm over thinking it at this point obviously; I haven't cleared yet so talking scoring strategy is just me getting a ahead of myself. But it's started to dawn on me that every PCE shmup I like fails to provide a fulfilling scoring system. :?

Even though I bought a lot of bombs on Hard and Super whereas I was avaricious on Normal (didn't spend a single crystal), the additional enemies make more than up for it scoringwise (they might even give more points/crystals, but I'm not entirely sure). It's almost sad how powerful the sword in this version is – sit in front of the bosses, use two or three bombs and wipe them out with no regrets. :lol:

Since I'm apparently incapable of getting a better Super Raiden score (I always die with 10+ bombs in stock :cry:) I thought it an adequate idea to get at least a slightly better WoT score. One advice for everyone trying to squeeze out the maximum amount of points: you get 500 points if you pick up a weapon upgrade while already being maxed out on firepower, so it's probably in your best interest to plan accordingly. It's not that much (many regular enemies give 600 points and more), but it adds up in the end.

Finally took this down. I don't know why I have such a hard time with it - I just can't seem to keep from running into enemies. Bullets are basically a non-issue, partly because they tend to do less damage and partly because they hit once (whereas I seem to get chain hit by physical damage). It's a great game, but I wish there was a little more scoring for me to go back to. After a couple of runs I'm not convinced that route will make much of a difference, though I'd be interested to ask what order Kollision and Perikles took. (I just went ahead and did the default sequence)

I wish there were more shmups like this though - shop systems can be a good way to balance survival and score play if you properly incentivize thrifty play. Makes me want to go back to Magical Chase...

I also took the default order. I'd say the only difference lies in the first stage since it's harder to kill everything in some stages when you're not fully powered up. It also depends on the armor, but Earth is by far the strongest one, anyway.

You should definitely play Forgotten Worlds (the PCE CD port is also fabulous), that's probably the best game with a shop mechanic like this. :)

Congrats!

I went with the default route, CS.

One stage that needed much more planning for me was the 5th (or was it the 6th?), the one with those bastards that shoot homing flames that can screw your credit if don't kill them fast enough. There are other annoying enemies there as well, which make this the toughest area for me to not get hit. :oops:

My second LOT 1CC. Didnt get the screenshot the first time and lost the score.
Mostly Earth Armor, but I like to use Fire in the first stage and Water on Bosque.
Played on Mednafen, PC Engine emulator, normal difficult.
