Arcade version: Normal difficulty, Stage Skip turned On (I think these are the Hyper Booster warp bits). This hardware has its config in the service mode, surprisingly.
Mega Drive version: Don't use the 99 lives cheat, of course. To get the Expert difficulties, press Up Down Left Left Right Right Up Down during the demo; a chime will play and the logo will be blue, note that entering the Options will turn it back to red.

Megadrive Genesis version.

Cleared the game on my first credit, got the above posted 1LC on my second. Some great tracks to be heard, game could've been a tad more challenging, though.

Now, I did use external autofire for this since I didn't read the description in the opening post beforehand, but I don't think that separate tables are necessary at all. I would recommend doing it as you did with Darius II for the different settings ("Ext." and "On" in this case, mayhap). You are able to kill a few bulkier enemies with external autofire that are very hard to get without (maybe even impossible), but it's not even close to something like Fantasy Zone or Darius Gaiden. I also watched a near-WR replay where the player definitely also used external autofire, so I don't think it's that unusual.

Anyway, I am very much surprised, this is a fabulous little game. Who would've thought there is so much room for optimization in such an obscure game? I only played it for a couple of hours, going for a no-bomb clear of one of the lucrative routes, but it's immensely rich in variation. That also applies to the cornucopia of tracks and enemies, it's superb. I particularly like the guys with the pendulums as an appendix, if you don't know how they work they'll cut you down with one mighty swing, even the sound effect is gruesome. So many great vignettes! That also inspired me to bust out my MD once more:

oh. i just wanted to get people to play with the default autofire, because it's actually reasonable in this game. oh well : (

Apparently the Expert code affects all difficulties. How nice. Put up the code, totally forgot to.
