There are also six players who counterstopped Mars Matrix (what was Takumi smoking?).

Same thing CAVE was, I guess. That's why Takumi made that fancy Dreamcast version with the extra digit.

Incidentally, I've always wanted to do a Most WRs that included Japanese players, but a lot of these goofballs use various nicknames (or modified names like SOF-WTN@COKE TOKE OR POKE NOBODY RIDES FOR FREE) that make it hard to tell if it's the same guy.

I've been using the Arcadia/Gamest history google doc to track scores from a few players. Do these guys ever use completely different names? There are scores from 9wp-ISO and Yusemi (with some other tags instead of SWY), but in that case I just look at the game center. How many WR holders at Daytona 3 are calling themselves ISO? How many Yusemis could there be at Goody 21?

Either way, ISO > all.

I think you're right that generally you can figure it out, but I've heard Yusemi has gone under completely different names. Not being entirely sure keeps me from making a list, although it's clear the top would include ISO, Yusemi, Clover-TAC, and LAOS (who many seem to regard as the greatest of all time).

Sand Scorpion has listed the WR score of the first loop. I believe you can get that just by killing enemies more efficiently, milking some of the missile carriers, and milking some missiles from bosses. 100 point missiles from 1-1, 1-4, and 1-5 bosses can be milked for quite some time. Then you just have to complete the rest of the game without dying and only using a few bombs in stage 2-5 and 2-6. I had a route where it was possible to use only 3 bombs in 2-5 and 1 bomb and 2-6.

If the record is easy to beat there's probably a good reason for that.

I'm not sure if he (seriously) played anything newer than Daioujou. He was the player on the DVD that Arika produced for the PS2 port, plus he has/had a bunch of WRs in older games. There's also this old superplayer tier list from 2ch that puts him at the top: http://highscore.egloos.com/m/242031

LAOS had the WR for Momo in Muchi Muchi Pork in 2008, but that's the most recent score of his I've seen.

On a related note, I found an MMP Harahara score higher than the one we have here (by the same player as the unofficial Manpuku WR):

ABC - 203,899,500 - ALL - Ikuo

Also, another new Soukyugurentai WR:

hamami - 45,623,061 - ALL - Houga

Gokujou Parodius has eight characters but only seven of them are listed - Michael (the pig) is missing. Speaking of Gokujou Parodius, I would keep an eye on this Twitter - that score there is very close to the WR, only about 10k off unless the record for Michael is higher than Koitsu's.

ALL characters are listed.

Michael score is 5,227,200 Player: CB TEMPULA. In the twitter of みっしー I don't read any reference to the character.

Shepardus means that this thread currently doesn't list that character, which is correct.

New Donpachi type B community record

The Armchair General - 26,472,840 - ALL - Max Hit 102 - Type B

Image

(vid for proof)

I've had the highest type B score on this forum for ages now but I didn't want to post anything until I got a run 23.5+ mil. Still plenty of room to improve though considering WR gets 60 mil :/

Got a couple games here to add to the database

ATLUS

Purikura Daisakusen
World: LKR - Kilala - 63,346,100
Community: Kino - Kilala - 3,719,900 (Saturn)

NAMCO

Assault
Old ver.
World: SPREAM-REI - 1,066,650

New ver.
World: SPREAM-REI - 975,550

Community: Aquas - 451,400*
*He was playing the World romset, don't know whether that's based off the 'old' or 'new' revisions. I have a higher score, but it was on the Namco Museum port, which removes the glitch allowing one to get a full time bonus if you finish a stage with zero seconds left on the clock. Not sure what the protocol is when it comes to accepting console ports that have a lower score ceiling than the arcade...?

Assault Plus
Easy
World: 堀井くんだよーん - 1,264,000 - Autofire ON
Community: Kino - 1,000,550 - Autofire OFF (PS1)

Super
World: RAMBLER-REI - 3,516,600
Community: Kino - 982,950 (PS1)

Some additions/suggestions/whatever.

Korean developer Afega (formed after Dooyong's collapse) has at least one game that is tracked by Japan: Stagger 1. The record is: 7,191,500 by DBS.

Aicom would later be known as Yumekobo, so you can group them together. Also, I believe the developer of Viewpoint was Aicom, not Sammy.

Castle Shikigami II has been known as Mobile Light Force 2 (sadly).

Zing Zing Zip was developed by Allumer, not Tecmo. War of Aero was not Allumer-devloped; it was developed by Yang Cheng (not sure if they're Chinese or Japanese).

For Capcom, you can add Hyper Dyne: Side Arms (9,999,990 counterstop with infinite score problem). Exed Exes is also known as Savage Bees. Area 88 is also known as UN Squadron. Its sequel, US Navy, is also known as Carrier Air Wing.

For Cave, I recommending adding Akai Katana Shin, a Nesica title. NTK holds the records for Type 1 and Type 3 (6,215,570,537 and 6,417,031,312 respectively).

for Data East, you can add Wonder Planet (10,285,830 by FUL).

Seisou Kouki Strania is also known as Strania: The Stella Machina.

Fire Barrel is also known as Air Assault.

P-47: The Freedom Fighter, Saint Dragon (Tenseiryuu), and P-47 Aces were developed by NMK, not Jaleco. You can also add Game Tengoku/The Game Paradise for Jaleco. Normal record: 47,149,260 by Kimura Masanichi, 2-ALL with autofire, all figher ex. Time attack record: 13,373,320 by SUR-ZFC-FCM. Fighterex record: 13,906,190 with autofire by Cyclone-R.T. Puupera record: 14,126,770 with autofire by PPR-KTL-IZK. Z-Dyne MkII record: 13,028,410 with autofire by KDK-Takeyuki, ALL with 21 seconds remaining. Pigu record: 13,255,340 with autofire by STG-MIC. Momoko record: 13,600,710 with autofire, anonymous.

Sengeki Striker was developed by Warashi, not Kaneko.

For Konami, you can add Flak Attack/MX 5000 (record: 3,456,100 by Sakuyama AA~N Shishou). Gradius is also known as Nemesis. Gradius II is also known as Vulcan Venture. Parodius Da is also simply known as Parodius. Trigon is also known as Lightning Fighters. Detana Twinbee is also known as Bells & Whistles. Gokujou Parodius is also known as Fantastic Journey. Twinbee Yahho is also known as Magical Twinbee.

For Milestone, you can add Radirgy (165,953,030 by TZW ART ?).

I'm not sure if Moss is technically the same company as Seibu Kaihatsu but they are clearly the same people. In any case, 服部 holds the Raiden III doubleplay record of 21,060,980, the Raiden IV Light doubleplay record of 42,067,230, and the Raiden IV Original doubleplay record of 92,793,920. CYS-SAK(37mania), who holds the Original single record, also holds the Light single record of 34,522,860. On the Nesica version, the Light solo record goes to KUDZILLA@鯨元帥 with 28,536,620, the "perfect" solo record goes to AKFキングレオ with 57,265,710, and the Original solo record goes to フェアリーラブ。2015 with 69,334,010. Caladrius AC also belongs here. I will list the scores as follows.
Arcade, no custom, Alex - 93,033,599 - AKF@ありがとうハイスコア集計
Arcade, no custom, Caladrius - 91,272,919 - TEN
Arcade, no custom, Kei - 93,454,570 - KTN 秩序よりも欲望を♥

Original, yes custom, Lilith - 61,345,838 - KTN-HOM

If you want to add the old version record for Dragon Spirit, it's 1,564,260 by Viegle-Haruka. You can also add, for Namco, Pistol Daimyou no Bouken. The old version has a possible infinite score but the record is 995,500 by Yuuji Sensei. The new version record is 1,014,200 ALL with autofire (remaining x 0) by KSD. If you want to add Xevious 3D/G, the record is 9,297,100 with autofire by KU.

Nichibutsu has two tracked games that I know of: Terra force (2,585,300 with autofire by SKY) and Tatakae! Big Fighter/Sky Robo (6,558,100 by Sekkyou ZAC-Ristar).

Task Force Harrier, USAAF Mustang, and Black Heart were developed by NMK, not UPL. You can also add Argus (10,000,000+α), Choujikuu Yousai/Super Spacefortress Macross (9,423,100 with external autofire and 9,300,100 without, both by Mr. Makoto Kun), Choujikuu Yousai Macross II/Super Spacefortress Macross II (see below), and Operation Ragnarok/Zed Blade (8,135,500 with autofire by Robocop and 7,308,850 ALL without autofire by Tsui~Maru@8Gou San). For Macross II, I'll list the scores as follows.
Beginner, external auto - 3,809,530 - [Watari]
Beginner, without - 3,681,920 - Cyclone-Hurricane
Medium, external auto - 4,107,490 - Cyclone-R.T
Medium, without - 3,942,010 - Seoul OKU
Expert, external auto - 4,619,380 - Cyclone-R.T
Expert, without - 4,499,640 - Cyclone-R.T

Oriental Soft, which is where Triangle Service came from, has at least one tracked game: G-Stream 2020, the prototype of Trizeal. The record is 8,917,280 by (° д°) No Pron.

Halley's Comet was developed by Pacific (might be an American dev), not Taito.

The version A record holder for Space Bomber is Chin Chin Mura Mura with 10,740,300. The version B record holder can also be written as Munetaka. The Zero Gunner record is specifically the Expert course, which is the only one that is tracked I believe (the others being USA, Asia, and Europe). Gunbird has also been known as Mobile Light Force.

I believe Arbalester was made by Jorudan, not Seta. You can also add, for Seta, Twin Eagle II: The Rescue Mission (7,899,140 with autofire by MRU-Kivichy and 7,295,870 without auto by Barutori Kun) and Ultra Keibitai/Ultra X Weapons, which has been counterstopped at 9,999,990.

I recommend adding Trouble Witches and Trouble Witches AC EX from Studio Siesta, which was originally a doujin. In the first arcade release, all characters were counterstopped at 99,999,999+α except Louie (96,372,940 by れっさ~). The EX (Nesica) version does not have this issue, so I will list the scores as follows (doki doki and gero gero have been translated accoring to the localization as heart pounding and mind blowing, respectively).
Heart Pounding, Aqua - 104,109,610 - れっさ~
Heart Pounding, Conan - 101,889,740 - れっさ~
Heart Pounding, Sies - 109,702,480 - れっさ~
Heart Pounding, Symphony - 103,702,940 - れっさ~
Heart Pounding, Pril - 102,471,360 - れっさ~
Heart Pounding, Yuuki - 105,686,610 - れっさ~
Heart Pounding, Lyla - 96,895,380 - みはる~ん
Heart Pounding, Louie - 107,533,980 - れっさ~
Mind Blowing, Aqua - 148,028,920 - BBA@水にスト青を
Mind Blowing, Conan - 138,077,060 - れっさ~
Mind Blowing, Sies - 165,547,920 - れっさ~
Mind Blowing, Symphony - 153,914,890 - BBA
Mind Blowing, Pril - 161,901,280 - BBA
Mind Blowing, Yuuki - 145,977,190 - BBA
Mind Blowing, Lyla - 135,915,330 - みはる~ん
Mind Blowing, Louie - 144,490,170 - れっさ~

Psyvariar: Medium Unit and Psyvariar Revision were developed by Success, not Skonec.

For SNK, you can add ASO: Armored Scrum Object, also known as Alpha Mission. The record is 6,708,910, all 12 stages clear, by Reorganize TO. Similarly, ASO II is also known as Alpha Mission II. You can also add Sky Adventure (11,471 by KDK-Takeyuki) and Ghost Pilots, which has an infinite score problem. Still, the records are 13,492,200 with auto by Souka and 13,566,400 ALL with no auto by Curry Oku No Goshujin.

Cotton has a second loop that can played by putting in another credit. 2-ALL records are 4,045,110 with auto by Yeti and 3,475,250 without auto by IML-UUU TA.

Darius Extra version has three additional no miss records by HRG-Hirolinn: 10,745,940 ACEHLQV, 10,188,820 ACEIMRX, and 10,877,540 ACFJOTZ. Darius II has also been known as Sagaia and all routes except below-V have an infinite score problem. For that reason, I won't take the time to listen them off here, as there are a number of routes. Chuuka Taisen is also known as Cloud Master. Twin Hawk was made by Toaplan, not Taito. Space Invaders DX can be added with 100,000+α. Space Invaders Anniversary can be added with 53,820 by SG-ELf 37歳でロートル for basic version and 22,090 by SG-ELF 37歳 for extra version.

For Takumi, you can add Night Raid. The record is 5,900,202,120 by KNN with external autofire, using Shinjuku Night Rider.

For Tecmo, you can add Raiga: Strato Fighter. The records are 2,743,090 with auto and 2,625,320 (remaining 12) without, both by Matsu on easy.

V-V has also been known as Grind Stormer.

For Triangle Service, you can add Trizeal with 5,854,340 by UCF.

For UPL, you can add XX Mission with 9,999,900+α and infinite score problem. Uchuu Senkan Gomora is also known as Bio-Ship Paladin. Koutetsu Yousai Strahl is also known as Steel Fortress Strahl.

The Sonic Wings games are also known as Aero Fighters.

For Visco, there are a few you can add. Asuka & Asuka has 924,700 on easy with external auto by BAD-Kitayamato-No ILM. Ashura Blaster has been counterstopped at 9,999,900. Galmedes and Captain Tomaday both have an infinite score problem so they don't have records I think. Earth Joker: UN Defense Force has 2,506,800 by WOP R.Y.

They are not, Seibu has only one employee, the president, who licenses out the Seibu properties. MOSS is where most of the Raiden devs went to when the president fired everyone.

Oriental Soft is a jank Korean developer that basically didn't pay Fujino for developing G-Stream G2020, which was re-released on 360 and PC as Deltazeal. The composer and graphics artist on this are also the same as on XII Stag, so despite this ostensibly not being a Triangle Service game, it's the entire original Triangle Service team, so it could realistically go under either brand.

Akai Katana Shin for NESiCA has some changes in comparison to the original game. Scores aren't exactly comparable.

Correct, the Shin version has different mechanics from vanilla and originated as a mode on the 360 version I believe.

Thanks, I'll add the new listings, move games so they're all under their developers and not publishers, and add alternate names (except for Mobile Light Force for Gunbird and Shiki II, they don't deserve it).

I've been avoiding Caladrius AC and might just add the top Arcade and Original scores. Over 20 scores for that one seems excessive. Trouble Witches is pretty bad, too. Do people want all those scores?

While V-V's international release was titled Grind Stormer, the two versions actually play differently, with V-V having a Gradius-style powerup bar and Grind Stormer having bombs and weapon pickups (which is also accessible in V-V as "bomb mode" through an input code on the title screen). Are there any Japanese records known for Grind Stormer/bomb mode?

Original and Arcade should be fine for Caladrius. It should also be fine to list Heart Pounding and Mind Blowing for Trouble Witches.

Shepardus, the "bomber version" of V-V is already on the list. :p

The one time I don't check...

I'm surprised the score difference is so high between the two modes, I thought their scoring potential would be pretty similar. (And it goes the other way for community records )

I've heard the enemies are less tanky in the bomber version, so that could be one cause. In V-V, the enemies take a fairly absurd amount of bullets before they die.

Correct, the Shin version has different mechanics from vanilla and originated as a mode on the 360 version I believe.

I mean Cave made changes to Shin when they released it for NESiCA. It's not the same game as Shin on 360.

Really? What sort of changes? I've only briefly played the NESiCA version, but nothing immediately stood out as different.

Grind Stormer has more points because of the end of game bonuses. GS does not have Perfect bonuses and instead has a massive 50,000,000 end of game bonus for a no miss. V V has a "Super Perfect" bonus (get all twelve Perfects?) that's only 10,000,000.

MAME reports two versions of Grind Stormer, old and new. The "Bomber" mode in V V appears to be identical to this old version of Grind Stormer, but the new version is slightly harder for no particular reason.

Everything suggests that Grind Stormer is a prototype that Toaplan either liked enough or were desperate enough to release.

Most of the changes are pretty small. I haven't played the game in years, but just from watching a video I can see that bullets move faster when they're in your slowdown aura in samurai form. They also gave the TLB a bomb shield, and there's a 500m bonus for destroying each one his phases. SIN probably went over everything on his blog if anyone wants to search for it. Seems they wanted to increase the difficulty a bit since it's an arcade release.

In any case, the records I listed are Nesica scores from Arcadia, so it should be fine.
