Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't; Crusty Hammer is partly RNG. Supposedly Storm Causer is also impossible, though I don't remember the fight to know if it's RNG or not.

The rank at that point is just absurd. I can NMNB the Crusty Hammer at stage 1 in 1P fairly consistently, and none of what I know about that fight is useful by zone P. And he's the boss of what, two other zones after that?

I need to start watching .SM's streams.

^This game is pretty much rank controlled/management... I've noticed this from watching some replays on youtube... slowly powering-up your shot/red and sometimes not collecting/avoiding the red power-ups on certain stages... :roll:

Oh, I'm not done yet. I'm not sure yet how much longer I'll go - those first few stages are tedious and any credit that's good but not a record is a real letdown considering the time spent. I might spend some time practicing Crusty Hammer and reevaluate - if I can get somewhat comfortable with that fight, I'll soldier on. If not, I don't know how much progress I can expect if I'm throwing away a life and four bombs every time he pops up.

After watching that Wasshoi play, I kind of want to see if I can learn to get some score out of Great Thing, just in case I can make an improvement to my 1P score. I don't expect to be that good at it, but I figure any practice against him will pay survival dividends either way.

I lost two lives in I, but decided to soldier on. No Miss Titanic Lance, and I think I could turn that into a 1-bomb kill. Turns out I don't know where the extend in Q is, so I didn't have the guts to try to take off all the boss's fins... which allowed me to limp my way through Crusty Hammer 2.

I was so excited, because I was SURE I could find the life in S and continue on to 12 mil. Nope! Sniped by a popcorn right at S's opening.

That Wasshoi run was very helpful. Knowing the safespot on Double Dealer is very helpful, as is the positioning for a couple of key waves. Avoiding just one or two hits on a shield makes a huge difference.

One of these time I'll learn to make an inp.

Jesus Christ. Two hits before Neon Light Illusion 2, then didn't die again until the Deadly Crescent in Q (thought he was going to do the purple waves, but he used his aimed shot while I was sitting right under him). Then carried three lives and three bombs into Great Thing - guess how he went down. Went into Risk Storage with 0 lives and 3 bombs, never fought him before. Made it through.

I kind of can't believe this run.

Got an inp of this one. Was going AMAZING until I took an unnecessary hit against the captain in Z', after which it all kind of went to hell. Great Thing wasn't bad, but I limped out with hardly any power, which I quickly lost in V... long story short, I fought Risk Storage with the default weapon. Something must have hit me from behind at the beginning of W, because I don't really know what ended my credit... I just know it did.

I'll also upload on youtube. This weekend will probably see me grinding Great Thing to get him down to one death, then learning Curious Chandelier (who I've never seen before).

Died on K boss, No Miss M boss, minor mistake and died on O boss, first time beating Q boss and down hill from there... Shame i didn't record this run, I normally watch my play and learn from there... As you can see from the embarrassing picture, I missed the gold medal (and extra life) and died :oops:

Nice work SM! I've got Great Thing down to a no-miss and I think I've got an ok hang of the remaining stages so I just need to take the time to do full runs until I join you in the clear club. :)

CHI that spot you died at was a real pain in both of those underwater stages. I used to just throw a bomb until I realized that if I started at the top of the screen then used the wall at the bottom to cover my turnaround that I could thin them out very well without ever being in danger.

Zone W and Vermillion knocked me down to lasers - I knew it was over. Had enough resources to limp through X and Y (killed Odious Trident with the default weapon), and managed to make it part of the way through Z. If I can get through W comfortably, I think I've got this in the bag - I'll probably just throw a preemptive bomb a the beginning of the boss fight to do extra damage and make sure I kill him before his tail comes up. The end is in sight - I can't wait to be done with this!

I think you've got past all the hard bits now, just got to do it without dropping many lives.
GT and stage Z' was all I really struggled with, once I got that down, I cleared it.

Went into Curious Chandelier with 5 or 6 lives and was like "Hey, I actually have enough resources to try to kill some of the tentacles!"

Lost three lives on him. :|

This should have been a 20 mil; I no missed Great Thing with 8 lives in stock and generally did amazing until CC. Ah well. I'm so done.

EDIT: Big thanks to CHI for bringing me to this. Darius Gaiden is a great game.

Thanks, but one more try. Death near the end but it didn't really end up costing anything since I would have finished with zero bombs otherwise. Now it's 8 spare lives and 3 bombs which is only 100k less and the high power I had before the death would have been bad for milking the Chandelier so it might have even been beneficial. Only problem is really bad capturing in the late game so there's one more million there.

Hey guys, I've been playing this version of the game (on a pcb, on a cab) a bunch lately just getting the feel for it, but I'm not sure about high scores on it because it feels like a test of sorts. It has a frame by frame mode built in (press p1 b3 to pause, then p2 b3 to advance to the next frame). So in a tough part you can just rapid fire frame by frame while controlling with the other hand. It's part of the game! Nice for testing, but should not be part of the game.
