Not much of a play-for-score game, but very fun nonetheless.

Thundercross 1 - PS2 port (it's JPN version, right?):

Ghegs - 1,968,720 - Stage 2-7

Jeez, i thought i could probably double my score with a bit of practice as i havent played it for a while, but this is probably a little too digit-happy for my skills. :D

Not to be listed in the rankings, due to lack of photos, but here's what I have written in my old arcade high score book:-

Thunder Cross
Two scores are written:- DEL - 3,736,660 and and arrow after it pointing at -> 10.000.000 (Counter Stop) - I guess I perservered to the Counter Stop.

Thunder Cross 2
All that is written under this entry is: 12 Loops (1 Credit).

Sketchy info on these two titles, but correct. Either I'm getting old, or I wasn't too bothered with these Konami releases to record things properly.

Nah, once you clear the first loop the second shouldn't pose too much of a problem. I didn't notice any increase in difficulty. The only reason I didn't clear the second loop is because I made a stupid mistake and couldn't get back to full strength.

Basic Konami-game: as long as you're fully powered up, you're safe. But recovering from death can be a total bitch. Seriously, the first time I saw Stage 7 was also the first time I cleared the first loop. I had one-lifed there and barely had to move during the whole stage except to dodge the scenery occasionaly. Probably the easiest stage if you're fully powered up.

And kudos to DEL.

Not any less than a Gradius game. ^^

Do you use Twin Shot on the final stage?

Great stuff, as always! :)

I presume you were playing the Western version, if you played the game back in the 80s?

If you want I can make tables for the Western version. As game is significantly different from the Japanese release, it would have to be two tables.

How do you know what version you're playing (TC1)? I played the rev. without the screen clearing bombs.

I guess I must have been playing the Western versions of both games in Casino arcade in the late 80s. They have always been careful not to install Japan only boards (except for the recent titles I've had installed for the London Meets  ).
Don't worry about a separate Western ranking. My facts are correct in so far as they are listed, but its really not necessary to open up another ranking.

& Thank You! :D

Yep, nothing else. Works perfectly. In fact, I think it's the only weapon I used that time, except for Stage 3.

Adam76 - 682,400 - stage 6

I tick along fine until the latter end of stage 3 which is riddled with those blue 'bunsen burners', at which piont i usually lose about 2 lives and spend the next stage frantically trying to get back to full strength. There are certain points where if you die once, you're screwed.

TC1:
elbarto - 1,561,560 - 2-4

Guess I'll be the first with a score for TC2, not great though..

TC2:
elbarto - 843,320 – 2-2

This flyer seems to suggest there could be a Euro version of the board with all the weapons intact. Did this actually get released?

Hmm, I don't think so.

Notice how the flyer reads...

When you say "western version", this also applies to the "Thunder Cross (set 2)" in mame 0.99, correct? The other non-Japanese romset appears to be identical to the Japanese version.

Afaik all versions of Thunder Cross II are actually the same. Not 100% sure tho. Perhaps you can shed some light on this?

I meant the first.

In MAME 0.99, the sets labelled "Thunder Cross" and "Thunder Cross (Japan)" are identical.

"Thunder Cross (set 2)", on the other hand, seems to be the "western version" that is mentioned here.

Played Thunder Cross 2 for the first time

SG - 232530 - Stage 1-4

I assume the Japan only rule applies only to the first game? I played this one on the World rom.
