Rules : Arcade rev only, Normal Difficulty (DIP Switch B = 1.ON 2.ON 3.OFF), 1 Coin, Auto/Rapid fire via an external device is allowed.

Format : Your name - Score - Stage Reached - Character or Plane used [Autofire, if used] specify game/version

Notes: Area 88 features a bonus stage good for about 80k, not found in UN Squadron. Tables are separated for this reason.

Nice, you keep our scores now, oxtsu. And no prob, gs68. If you don't have the time just skip the table to someone else. :)

Though my score was for U.N Squadron, you accidently placed me on the Area 88 table.

What does make the point difference in this game? Don't know where to get much extra points. Do I get extra bonusses for not buying Weapons and shields? Maybe I am going to try the Japanese Version now, to see the Special Stage.

Ruldra - 1,213,930 - ALL - Shin

Shin fires so fast when he's at full power, you really don't need autofire here.

That makes my last shmup clear for this year 8)

Hi
An old classic, shame capcom don't make games like this anymore.

U.N squadron US pcb

Arc 1506060 ALL mickey - autofire
Potential to get a higher score brought shield and fuel for the last level which I don't think I'll need with more practise! It's been years since I played this game!

Kaiser - 1,223,870 - ALL - Shin

I used autofire, don't know how can you really reach a 200/300k higher score, it takes some nuts skills and knowledge. (Pst pst, my next target is carrier air wing on this thread).

Also here's the 3-part video of my run instead of a screenshot:

Kaiser, congrats on the score.

The highest score I've seen w/o the final stage bug exploit (counter stop) was around 1.85 mil. Basically you would have to go through the game w/o getting hit, w/o buying special items, shooting down everything and then finding all of the hidden bonuses.

What's this final stage bug? Never heard of it.

Instead of finishing off the core, you can destroy the regenerating guns for points. As far as I know (someone correct me if I'm wrong), the boss doesn't time out.

That's nuts, the only secret items I know of is the section Z guy in Stage 5 (somewhere in middle of the stage up there somewhere, it's hard to get it though), he also appears in Stage 8 (Right at the start just shoot the top of the screen) also Yashichi appears during Stage 8 boss.

You get a bitchin' awesome weapon for grabbing the one in stage 5 though :D At least in Area 88, haven't tried UN Squadron but it's probably the same. He's also in the ground at the start of the top route in the last part of the Cave level, and on the ground right after one of the buildings in Stage 9, just gotta shoot to make him appear.

That Yashichi from the ship is near impossible to collect without flying over the boss and turning around once (are boss parts worth extra points? would be worth doing for St. 3 and St.8 then)

Worked on these for a while. Finally made some progress in U.N. and managed to get a clear. I then remembered about Carrier Air Wing, the pseudo-sequel and began to see the light. It's a bit tougher than U.N., later stages and final boss to be sure. I think after CAW I understand the series better as I dumped quite a bit more time in that than U.N.

There's room for improvement in U.N. to be sure, all thanks to CAW.

No leeching. I missed an astronaut (Stage 5) and used two shields (Stage 6 & 10). So I believe I could push this over 1.6 million if I correct those issues, which is alright.
Here's the 1.48 million inp I made earlier: requires wolfmame 99

Area 88 (Arcade - MAME)
RFP - 1,722,470 - ALL - Mickey [AUTO]

U.N. Squadron (Arcade - MAME)
RFP - 1,617,240 - ALL - Mickey [AUTO]

All secrets uncovered (pardon St8 Yashichi) and no money spent in either.

Carrier Air Wing (Arcade - MAME)
RFP - 2,149,660 - ALL - Hornet [AUTO]

Missed the rabbit & man on St3 and the star on St5, otherwise all secrets revealed and money spent on 4 (25,000 fuel tank), 9 (45,000 shield), & 10 (60,000 super shield). Not many perfects, I believe only 1, 3, 7, & 10. I can record a replay in CAW and A88/UNS, if need be. Otherwise...

This is my last visit! I shall never return!

I wanted to 1cc this for a long time and I'm glad I finally did it. I almost regretted not buying a shield on the last stage as I had a sliver of life left when I was at the core. I almost cracked but I didn't. Hah. Gonna try Area 88 soon.

Very cool game. I can definitely improve on this score, but it feels good to get the 1cc.

Fuel/health system was a terrible idea that ruins the game imo. I sold my board off pretty quickly.
