Hi guys I have a few cave pcb's and would like to know how to remove the batteries please.
Also are the batteries just for game saves? Doesn't affect the game at all?

Cheers!

Which games in particular are you talking about? CAVE's switched hardware several times in its history.

There are no Cave games that use batteries for security measures though (EDIT: except Progear, obviously, since it's a CPS2 game. You can replace the battery, but you gotta do it fast'ish), you can replace all of the others safely, and all boards work without one, too.
"Older" games require the battery to save high scores and settings, while the SH3 games save alle data in flash memory, and only use the battery to keep time.

Cool thank you.
Now gotta figure out who to get the batteries out!

They're enclosed in a black casing..

Just gently tip them out with a flathead screwdriver or similar. They aren't in that tight if I remember correctly.

Definitely a good idea to replace them (or remove them entirely) if you want to reduce the risk of PCB damage due to old batteries leaking.

The back-up battery used in the Cave SH3 based PCBs (i.e. Ibara, Deathsmiles, etc.) all use the same lithum coin type battery for (RTC) -- Real Time Clock purposes. Should the back-up battery go kaput in an Ibara PCB, an interesting situation occurs when booted up but does go away once it's replaced promptly.

According to www.system16.com :
CV1000B
CPU : Hitachi SH-3 CPU, 133 Mhz Clock
Sound Chip : Yamaha YMZ770C-F
Other Chips (Based on Ibara) : Altera Cyclone EP1C12F324C8 FPGA (i think used as Video-DSP and SD-RAM Controller), K9F1G08U0A 128M x 8 Bit NAND Flash Memory, 1x MX29LV160BBTC-90 Flash Memory and, 2x MX29LV320ABTC-90 Flash ICs (space for up to 2 more Flash ICs is not used), 1xMT48LC2M32B2-6 SDRAM, and 2x MT46V16M16. LA4708 Audio amplifier.

CV1000D
Notes : The CV1000-D is a direct upgrade of the Cave CV1000B board, the main differences seem to be;
Chip U1 : IS42S32400D 128Mb SDRAM @ 166mhz (standard SH3 has MT48LC2M32 64Mb SDRAM)
Chip U4 : 32Mbit Spansion S29JL032H (standard SH3 has a 16Mbit Spansion S29AL016D.
No Lithium Battery

Anyways, this topic should be on the Hardware Section of this forum.
