Hi,

the ppf patch file for mushi was not compatible with the dvdv hack (esr, freemc, etc...) for me.

esr disc patcher complain about no udf descriptor.

Patching the iso file with an hex editor was successfull.

THX for this hack, mushi look great now on my aerocity. 8)

I never put up any patches for HNK, so you will have to patch manually. Note also that this is originally a high res game, and that a choice of 240p over 480i is more one of preference than authenticity. I liked it better in 240p. Same with Raiden III and SNSII.

Oh my bad i thought you linked to a ppf for the HNK patch, i just tried did applied it manually with a hex editor and it worked, but i see what you mean as a matter of preference, i'll have to try it out both ways to see what looks better! Thanks antron!

maybe I did  , I don't have them now though. Glad it worked.

also, for the vertical games, I think you have to be running tate.

Anyone know if this would work with Sonic Mega Collection Plus or Mega Man X Collection?

i recently got my hands on a network-adapter and hdd for my ps2 and tried to patch some games. thanks to ReKleSS for this method.

here's my results:

taito memories I & II (ntsc-j) do not work. they do not even load after patching.

gunbird 1&2 (ntsc-j) on the other hand works fine. still not as crisp as the dc version, but at least the interlacing is gone. there seems to be a little filtering of the original resolution, so it's not pixel perfect low res. afair you need to edit only the second code, because the first one is not in the .iso. btw, from hdd the loading pause before bosses is acceptable.

the oretachi gesenzoku games are a mixed bag. here also, only the second code is in the files, and changing that yields different results. all games do load up, but as in the gunbird collection, even if properly de-interlaced, they show more or less filtering-artifacts. of the games i patched, only thunder cross and rabio lepus do look acceptable to me. terra cresta has especially weird filtering.

psikyo shooting 2&3 (ntsc-j) do load after patching, but look even weirder. i'm no technician, but it looks to me that the display i a strange mix of low res graphics and interlacing (if that is even possible). i cannot put in into words, but the games do show interlace flickering with a somewhat low-res look on the graphics. also, apparently filtering was used to mess up the pixels. sadly, oretachi gesenzoku sonic wings shows exactly the same behaviour. atm i think the original interlaced display is better than this mess, but i have to compare more.

hope this helps anyone!

T-T-T-THREAD NECROMANCY!

Is there a way to make Soul Calibur II 240p?
I kinda want it to work on my cab and it looks terrible in 480i.

KOF2002UM should have a 480p mode (so you don't really need a 240 mode just to avoid interlacing artefacts). For 240p it's a 50/50 chance. Some of the Playmore titles work in 240p (Garou) while others don't (Last Blade).

i'm using a scart rgb cable for ps2. No YUV, so i can't use the 480p mode.

You get lucky on KoF 2002 UM - it does work. Some of the menus look a bit wrong with the missing lines but the game looks fantastic.

Guilty gear xx slash = working
Guilty gear accent core plus = working
Samurai tenkaichi = not working
Sengoku basra x = not working (the game boot to the first logo and nothing more after)
Arcana heart 2 = working ( but intro not working, just press "O" button to pass)

I just tried this on Tecmo Hit Parade, and the initial 'Tecmo' logo looked great in low resolution, but nothing after that worked. Maybe a selecting editing of the .iso would set the low res for games only.

In any case, this collection does not work properly with HD-Loader 8B, so I couldn't play it anyway. It freezes at different parts of the game selection menu, and fails to load any game.

These games can also be patched to 240p and are confirmed/tested to be working as well:

Capcom classic collection (USA)
Capcom classic collection 2 (USA)

Patched using HxD hex-editor, simply replace all instances:

01 00 24 32 ff 00 45 32 - > 00 00 04 20 ff 00 45 32
01 00 24 32 04 00 06 a6 - > 00 00 04 20 04 00 06 a6

Unfortunately R-Type FINAL (NTSC/J) doesn't work, the game shows IREM logo and then freezes :(

EDIT: Gradius V (USA) confirmed to be working in glorious 240p! You just need to skip the intro, the game itself plays fine then :) Just avoid the intro or the game will freeze

I don't really see the point in applying this to games using polygons since those games benefit from the higher resolution.

if you like playing those games on CRT in 480i, then you don't need to patch/force these to run in 240p of course

Some people prefer loss of resolution to flicker.

You won't get flicker if you're using a decent TV/monitor.

I've never seen an interlaced image on a CRT not flicker. How does that work exactly?

Not all polygonal games will run in 480p though. It's all kind of hit or miss. In which case your choices are 480i and 240p. Interlacing flicker or lower resolution. :/

Which polygon games in this thread don't support 480p?

Regarding Ibara: Is it possible to burn this directly to the original disc? or would I want to burn it to a new disc?

Sorry, I wasn't able to extract any info regarding that in the thread.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Just got into doing this. Not as hard as I thought it would be. Anyway, just want to update the list.

XII Stag (NTSC-J) works
Radirgy (NTSC-J) works
Homura (NTSC-J) works
Rez (NTSC-U) works
Panzer Dragoon (NTSC-U) works
Twinkle Star Sprites (NTSC-J) works but 1/4 of screen is shifted downward
Okami (NTSC-U) works
The King of Fighters XI (NTSC-U) works
Metal Slug 3 (NTSC-J) works
Odin Sphere (NTSC-U) works
Neo Geo Battle Coliseum (NSTC-U) works
Beyond Good & Evil (NTSC-U) works
SVC Chaos (NTSC-J) works but top of the screen is glitchy

Simple2000 Vol.37: Double Shienryu (NTSC-J) doesn't work
Cho Aniki (NTSC-J) doesn't work
Gradius III & IV (NTSC-U) doesn't have the codes to be replaced
Marvel Vs Capcom 2 NTSC-U) doesn't work
Mr. Mosquito (NSTC-U) doesn't work
Capcom Vs SNK 2 (NTSC-U) doesn't work
Front Mission 5 (NTSC-J) doesn't work
Sunsoft Collection (NTSC-J) doesn't work

I am just curious. Must all game have to have both codes in them and must both codes be present for it to work. I am trying to do it for ICO PAL version and there is only one code (01 00 24 32 FF 00 45 32). All the other games that I have tried before have both codes, some with multiple of each. ICO PAL version with the changed code runs but I can't really tell if it is working or not as I am running it on a low res CRT monitor and both version look the same to me, i.e. still blurry. =/
