Most likely not. In fact, they're probably over written soon after the event.

GaijinPunch wrote:Anyway, here's the details on the special versions. I'll include titles for oxtsu's glorious list.

Guwange:
TITLE: Guwange: Dai Cave Festival Tokubetsu Shiyou
-Little coin juicing thing when skull counter is gold doesn't require 1000 counter
-Was there a blue meter in the right hand corner before? There is now... and it did nothing apparently
-Bullets do far less damage
-Bullets that are turned pink w/ shikigami and go back to blue, instead will flash red & blue. If you cancel another one that was in the same group as that one, it will cancel and turn into a coin.
-Bombs give coins for all bullets on screen
-5th stage boss' Ape form sprite is scaled (2 to 3 times normal size)
-Last stage boss pattern altered. More balls... crazy fucking pattern, but far less bullets. One guy cleared it... another came very close. I had to leave.
Was the title changed on the main screen in Guwange as well ?

Does anyone know of any videos of this special Guwange game ?

Some guy on the french site (shmup.com) said there was a rumor about a new Cave game. Ikeda reportedly said there was a clue somewhere in christmas' Cave Matsuri about future projects, and some calligraphy there read "The great return of Dodonpachi" (in japanese ofc). Anyone heard about this ?

It was written on one of the pricey wall-scrolls sold at the festival. When I saw it, I had a hunch it was hinting at something to come in 2008. A new DDP would not surprise me, as it would be a great business move for Cave (the Japanese love their DDP).

If they do release a new DDP I'd love to see a more lenient chaining system. Maybe they could have two modes, one for weaksauce shmuppers like myself and one for everyone else :D

I thought every new DonPachi series installment had a more lenient chaining than the previous (at least it's true for DP -> DDP -> DOJ)...

tbh I would definitely want a "more lenient" chaining system as well, and I would also not like it to loop, but I guess a Dodonpachi wouldn't be a Dodonpachi if it didn't loop and didn't have a super strict chaining system :[

how is DOJ more lenient than DDP chaining wise ?

Seems a hell of a waste to code the necessary changes and print the PCB just for the sake of a one-off event? Shame.

No need to print a new PCB, just change program ROM's.

Anyone have a video of the new Guwange in action ?

The code probably isn't that bad of an undertaking really. Tweaking some existing code here and there. Probably playtime for IKD.

They don't need to print a pcb, likely all the changes are in the program code, so they just need to burn one ROM and swap it on an existing board. And the rom's socketed, so super easy.

They should release the rom images and let people burn them and try at home ;)

A New DDP would be a shocker since he said in the black label interview released with the DVD that he chose the title daioujou specifically to signify the end of the series.

LOL at the $700 pillow cover.

FIRST:
Thoughts on the show.

Okay, as I'm in the middle of no where and have little else to ponder on, I thought about this for a couple of minutes. A new ESPRade maybe? A wall scroll that says "The Return of Dodonpachi" seems a little more than hint, no? Seems way too obvious.

What we know:
-All Cave sequels are harder than their predecessors
-DOJ is already hard as balls, and they took some shit for it. Something harder? Come on. Cave has been catering to the weak as well.
-Cave have been doing character-driven stuff exclusively for years
-Inoue is still friendly w/ Cave, as he did this all day event, drawing his balls off.
-Doesn't it seem likely they wouldn't do a true sequel until he was back?
-ESPRade has new merchandise, yet a special version is mysteriously missing from the games room. Hmm....

Anyways, just my thoughts. If it turns out to be true, I am of course, a genius.

Nice writeup!

Could you tell me if the Guwange title screen had changed on the game
itself not only the marquee ?

Did you get a red flash when hitting start just before you select your
character ?

The scaling of the Ape Boss was it visible, i.e. did they scale an
existing sprite a bit more or did they design a new one ?

I unfortunately didn't play the game, as the line was kind of long, and I was quite tired. I don't think any of the screens were changed though. The scaled boss was painfjully visible. Looked like shit.

The reason why I asked is I because I wanted to determine if they
had ported Guwange to the new hardware or just changed the program
code.

If the screen flashed red we would have known it was the same hardware.

However since you said the scaling looked ugly we can assume that they
just changed the program code on the existing PCB.

I don't swear nearly as much as I do in these fucking forums, but I guess they are still enjoyable. Amazing the world we live in... I can barely spell.

I don't see how "The Return of Dodonpachi" would be a hint for a new Esprade. Apart from that, all your conjectures sound plausible. I do hope you are right! However, one way or another, a new Ikeda game is coming up, and that's good news whatever it might end up being.

Now back to thinking seriously about moving back to Tokyo.
